The issue seems to lie somewhere in lightdm. I was able to successfully
build .deb packages for the fglrx drivers and install. Each time I
installed it, on the next restart lightdm would exit with status one.
Using the command sudo service lightdm start would end with the same
results. The service

Same issue with Dash flicker. Background seems okay though. When
searching for an app the letters enter correctly, but when "TAB"ing to
selection the highlighting is unpredictable forcing me to use a mouse

I'm not sure about the relation. It would be better to have screenshots
to compare.
Assuming that the bug could be related to language, I uninstalled
Brazilian Portuguese, left everything in English and restarted Ubuntu.
The procedure for test is double click files DOC, DOCX and ODT in
Nautilus.
This bug affects me too. I can only play about 5 or 10 minutes of
Bastion (via steam) before the whole computer freezes. A very very
important bug to fix considering the possible influx of new users
interested in trying steam. This bug makes the system seem very unstable
and down right un-usable.

Ok, my best guess would be a page-fault-of-doom scenario or a severe GPU
hang that is taking down the system. The suggested course of action for

I followed your instructions using t and then "apport-
collect 1076776" and although it seemed to be going through the motions
(completing various prompts, etc) nothing seemed to get uploaded at the
end. The last part (I believe) said about waiting a few seconds but it
seemed to hang at
Bug solved, circular conflict was due to not well installed PPA.
For replacing a xserver-xorg-video-intel from Ubuntu by one from PPA, Stefan
Glasenhardt told me to do:
sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" dist-upgrade
instead of sudo apt-get upgrade.
It worked.
