If you Log In without being connected to the second monitor, you will
not be able to use the second monitor for that session.
Logging Out and Logging In again will allow you to use the second
monitor.

Harry, thanks for the info on the problem with the Nvidia Vdpau PPA. The
problem with the xserver-xorg-video-5 instead of 6 was due to my initial
laziness in just copying the binaries from Karmic over the Lucid. I have
corrected it by building the drivers against Lucid. The new 190/195
driver in th

I am using an IBM Thinkpad R60 with Intel Integrated Graphics. Upon

Based on another user's suggestion, I deleted my .config directory,
logged back in, and reconfigured xfce to get back to where I had been.
After server system restarts, I no longer see this problem. Assuming
that it is related to some oddity in my previous xfce configuration, I

Adding "nomodeset" to the kernel command line for 2.6.31-14 worked. I will
happily be a guinea pig for testing, since I own one of these "awesome" panels.

@Jerone Young
You don't get the white ubuntu logo. I can plug in an external monitor
and I see a display on that monitor. It is the LCD panel from AUO
causing the problems. Also, if I select the last kernel from Intrepid
(2.6.28-16) in grub, then everything works great (but FF3.5 is very
slow).
Hmm, cant do multiple attachments to ticket, here is my Xorg log.
