It seems to be the same issue as bug #371563. I disabled the touchpad in
the BIOS and, now, left click works fine. It appears not to be possible
to disable the touchpad system>preferences>mouse>toouchpad in Karmic.

Left mouse click doesn't work. Already at the log in screen (gdm) it fails to
