A new major version of the -intel driver is now available in Karmic.
This version includes a major reworking of the acceleration
architecture, which resolves a huge number of issues. We do not know
whether it resolves the issue you reported.

Please let me know what other information I can get and what procedures
to use to obtain it, I'm currently booting the broken installation on an
alternate hard drive and can get in using the safe mode to a command
prompt 'netroot' off the fix me screen that comes up.
