It actually is worse then that: a version of cmucl can only be rebuild
using that same version. Bootstrapping from an older version is a
complex manual process.

As far as I know the 2.6.15-1[567] kernels also cause problems for cmucl
and for clisp. A working version 0.9.9.0 for dapper and breezy can be

You need a working recent sbcl to rebuild sbcl. That or you need to
cross compile it manualy from cmucl or possibly from clisp.

What I see in the buildlog is a failure of the x86_64 (so amd64) code.
Please not that in debian we found an ICE in gcc on amd64, see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349268 .

As the debian maintainer of this package I would like to know what
version you are refering to.
Please note that I have not been informed of this problem and that clisp
2.36-X builds correctly on i386 on debian.
