I had a similar problem on my eeebox with Mandriva 2009. My DVI monitor
worked fine but when I replaced it with a VGA monitor (with a VGA-DVI
adaptor) the new monitor did not caught any signal. After playing with
xorgcfg and xorgconfig without success, I finally booted with Knoppix
5.1.1 live usb key and copied the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file generated by
Knoppix to the Mandriva system. It works fine since ;)
