I am writing a technical report using Ooo 2.4.1 on Debian Linux. It is
an experiment to see how OOo performs for an engineering report or paper
writing.
In my experience, OOo has most of the features covered as far as text

Something that's tripped me up a few times is quite a simple issue -
having Keep with next paragraph, Orphan control, or Widow control set
for a paragraph style can stuff up pagination in the way you describe.

I tried to convert a WP document with the OOWriter to odt, but had some
problems. Then I found the Zanzar (http://www.zamzar.com/) with which I
had better results. At least it did not insert extra colors where none
where specified, which were sometimes very difficult to remove.
