I think you should tell us what exactly you are doing. In a spreadsheet
of mine, I selected a cell and typed "=6+5", and I obtained "11"
in the cell.

To perform arithmetic, you must tell Calc that you wish to perform
arithmetic.
You do this with the equals sign. Instead of just entering 6+5 try =6+5 and
that will make it do what you are asking. Generally, the equal sign
will be the
very first character that you enter. Otherwise, Calc thin

To have Calc perform a calculation you need the following syntax:
=YOUR SUM HERE
or by highlighting a cell clicking on the = next to the input field
then enter your sum
