If by "this" you mean 6.0, you may possibly be right. With 6.5, that has
yet to be proven.
I feel rather sorry for the NetBackup QA group though - they have a *huge*
challenge testing each release because there are so many variations po

Hi Randy
Most probably you are not able to recover.
If you want to be sure you should use "net start mysql" in bpstart_notify
and "net stop mysql" in bpend_notify. Of course if it's non Windows OS the
command differs.
Another way is to dump the mysql data using the mysqldump command and

I should know this but I'm having a moment. I back up a client that has

My guess is if they ever lost any mysql data they would not be able to
recover from the OS level backup, is this correct?

Thanks, by using the -b option in the vmquery command and grep'ing out

If you're trying to do ejections, I don't like that one as much because
it will give you media both in and out of any robot, without
indidicating the current location (like vmquery will give you).

I usally use the output of 'vmquery -a' or 'vmquery -rn <#>' and parse

I'm looking but haven't found it yet so I thought I would ask while I
look. I need a command to get the volume pool and bar code of a tape
that volume pool was written to.
Bottom line is I need a way to identify the copied tape so I can eject
it to be sent offsite.
Thanks

Thanks Tey.
Changing the OFO to VSS seems to have done the trick.
FYI: The server got rebooted during the backup when
OFO was disabled or when using Veritas VSP option to
backup open files.
Have a great weekend.

Hi All,
This debate will continue to go on forever. I have found that hard coding works
extremely well when set. In many cases setting to auto and auto still gave
issues.

Hi,
Even I am facing this problem with some search criteria .
Did you tried from CLI using bplist command .
Also check the client and server name client properties and netbackup
machines and policy type windows respectively.
Hope this will help

Nice response...I just got off the phone w/ Symantec and ask if anyone
has reported issues w/ 6.5, and as of yet no. However I was advise by
Symantec, that the Engineers at Symantec ARE advising that we all hold
off on deployment of 6.5 until MP1 is release, which surprisingly enough
is scheduled

I think you have it right on with this. For instance some of the BMR bugs
we have seen should have been caught in their QA.
They should have caught the fact that AD wouldn't restore on a

I am using it in some of my smaller environments. so far no issues it looks
like 6.0 except for some improvements in the Vault Management area.
Pretty stable so far.
Upgrade from 6.0 was pretty painless. Upgrade from 5.1 to 6.5 has the same pain
as 6.0 to 5.1.

Like they said going to 6.5 should be less painful than upgrading to
6.0. However, as others said it is sometimes a good idea to wait to see
what the experiences of the bleeding edge folks are (especially for your
production environments).
The question is - would we keep going to the same dent
Bingo!

The problem is a misconception - we all think MP stands for "maintenance
