I've done quite some profiling on the (old) 1.2 release, so the most obvious
bottlenecks should be gone. But the code has changed a lot since, and I
don't have that much time any more, so there sure is work to do :-)

Some performance hotspots were (or still are) 2D surface operations in SDL
like changing transparency (ghost...), scrolling, minimap generation, font
and minimap cache especially in the multiplayer lobby screen (memory
tradeoff), and recently the multiplayer server itself (David has done a lot
of work there).

There sure are more, it can't hurt to do some profiling :-)
