Moreover, suspend works now even without going to console first! GREAT!
Well, I have to re-plug the net cable, somehow ifplugd dies after
suspend, but that's a minor worry.

Daniel's packages dont have this problem.
I can use Kevin's workaround now, I'm fine.

no no! for me it's clear now it has nothing to do wit PM. I tried 1)

Hi,
Following Kevin's comments, I compiled hi-res fb out of the kernel
(section: console drivers) and now the display is back after Fn+F3 or
suspend but ONLY without X running.
So I have to quit X, suspend, wake up, startx. Not bad, but could be
better. Half-done.

Why wasnt my OpenGL working with my debian with 4.2.1, while it was
working on the same machine with knoppixCD 4.2.1. If I know what the
problem was I want to go back to 4.2.1 and have APM working.
See the bugs filed about this against xlibmesa3-gl. Compiling 4.2.1 with
gcc 3.2 doesn't work well

Hi,
The problem is precisely defined now: IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH APM NOR

the display back (but no sleep mode of course :( ). BUT FN+F3 alone
kills the display, it goes completely black, then, after pressing a key

Just in case you have not seen any of my posts on the "no/distorted
display after suspend" problem, there is a work-around.
Switch to a character display (CTRL-ALT-F2)
Turn off the display (usually Fn-F3 on ThinkPads)
Turn display on (Any key)
Switch back to X (Alt-F9 on FreeBSD, maybe something e

yes, this is it, it gives the missing 20% performance.
but KNOPPIX doesnt have it in its XF config file..
For your reference, I get 1400-1500 fps on this PowerBoo
If you're still using my packages, have you read

yes, right, xdm authorize works :)
APM still hangs my laptop (display doesnt come back)
