I know this might sound odd... but I've not seen any REST examples in
the corporate sphere but loads of SOAP/WSDL ones.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Travel_Alliance is a nice example
and the GDS vendors are all either there or moving that way.  That is
just one sector, its the same everywhere I look in the commercial
space, successful collaborations based around Web Services.

Nope, you've agreed on the syntax, the semantics are the MEANING of
the operation, which you definately haven't identified using a URI and
HTTP.
