Thanks Jean, understood on the CGI.

I was actually thinking of using check_ping, but I'll poke around for it.

Is there a subproject to write everything as a py script? That would make 
running on Windows a little easier I would think.  I'm doing both Linux and 
Windows right now.

My main goal is to monitor our 100+ clients, both locally (for our clients use) 
as well as centrally on our server so that we can glance at all of our client 
states.  We do have a few Windows clients (Oracle Apps runs poorly on Windows, 
as it's really written for Unix flavors).  Shinken's multi-platform nature 
really appeals to me.

The "don't use" is more an advice than an order :) You can use it, but it's 
just slow and not user friendly, that why I think it's far better to use other 
tools.

In fact the only plugin that use it is the check_ping for a html output that 
will call traceroute.cgi. So I think if this value is mandatory, you can put 
whatever you want, it will have no impact for you :)
