If you have an older machine it should be pata which means that the CD/DVD will probably be on a separate pata connection. If so you could just connect both HDDs in place of the CD/DVD using the cable from the dead machine. An alternative would be to replace the HDD in the good machine with the two HDDs in the dead one using an ide cable with a double connection(the one from the dead machine probably will be) and boot the machine. you could then copy the data you want to memory sticks.
