There is so little difference between planes, I think you should pick in a completely different manner. 

Pick the three or four salient characteristics that are important to you, ie airfoil, slip off nose cone or canopy, tail type, std, v-tail or t-tail, you get the idea and then pick the plane that looks the best to you.  Pretty simple.  There are so many other factors ie pilot skill, computer programming skill, cg setting skill, control throw setup skill, prevailing weather conditions etc, that after that point, I don't think it makes any real difference. 

Be careful of the hype and the fact that some planes are "popular" but not necessarily better.  I once had a chiropractor tell me he could cure my diabetes by crunching my back.  I didn't fall for that one either.
