If you're in the Midwest and can get out and slope today, get out. I got about 20 minutes in over lunch, flying in winds 20+mph out of the S/SW, sloping over the river.
I've been flying this location with a HLG the last couple weeks, but it's strong enough out today that the foam seemed to be a better choice. No way to go to the backside where I fly, but the front is a long, subtle bowl, with a lot of nothing out front. Anyway, trying to get my touch back after flying slow all Summer, and I see what I thought was a seagull come in from over my shoulder. Don't see him again for another few minutes, but it turns out he had moved back and above me (not my ship). As I did a pass back down the face of the bowl, he moved in. It was very impressive; he never flapped, didn't seem to be trying to hard, but he moved directly into my 'six'. I was concerned about flying into him, so I dropped and moved out over the water. He never got more than about 3 feet from me, following me thru the whole maneuver. I did one more run back at myself and around the circuit, he tucked in on me once, then decided I didn't know what the hell I was doing and moved out. Only saw him one more time; as I was putting my stuff back into the car. He dropped in above my car, did a little half roll to get a better look, then went back to cruising the shore line. I assume he was curious as to what I was putting in the car, or maybe he was telling me to practice more and come look him back up when I was a lot better.
