* WARAWAR, 14 March 2017 [Gurtong] - *An eyewitness who requested for
anonymity told Gurtong that the attack was carried out early on Thursday
and Friday last week which has resulted to deaths and injuries of at least
9 people.

“As we were coming from Meiram with our goods heading to Majok, we found
heavy fighting going on there along the border, we could not move to cross
as the fighting was still on-going but we had to get some escorts from the
Sudanese Messirya tribes’ armed men.” He told Gurtong.

Similar fighting also erupted within the territories of South Sudan on
Saturday when the barracks of the SPLA Lion Division was attacked by
unidentified armed men.

In this fighting heavy casualties were reported from both sides where ten
armed men were reported killed and the seven others confirmed dead from the
SPLA side.

On Tuesday, heavy reinforcement from the SPLA within the division
headquarters at Wun-yiik has been sent to calm the situation there.

Despite several peace conferences signed between the two bordering tribes
of Sudan and South Sudan, it is not clear what provoked the tension as the
two sides have failed to confirm officially the causes of bloodshed from
both sides and whether those killed are from their respective communities
so far.
