I'm waiting for information on the cellulose blown-in insulation. Meanwhile,
if this space has to be sprinklered, would it be practical as it is packed
with insulation?

Tony,

Ask for the spec sheet and lab report on the material, the truth lies
within. Mineral Wool, i.e. thermafiber and roxul are common non
combustible. Watch the details the code requires non combustible not fire
retardent. Cellulose Blown-In Insulation is a wood fiber based
fire-retardant but not non combustible.

Also some fiberglass insulation, i.e. no kraft facing and no plastic
reinforcement stranding is also non combustible.

Had a project a few years back that used the infill technique to avoid
suppression in concealed combustible spaces. The inspection included
selected borings through the sub floor to assure proper fill.

Hope that helps

I have a 14" deep open web wood truss floor space filled with "blown
Cellufibre sound attenuation insulation". Anyone know whether this
insulation is "non-combustible" complying with a combustible concealed space
permitted by NFPA to be unsprinklered? They claim the insulation is fire
retardant. But I'm not sure.
