A fire official here in SoCal asked me to forward his comments on current topics, as he's having a problem getting his replies to post to the forum: * According to 2010 California Building Code Section 310 halfway houses are classified as either Group R-2.1 or Group R-4 occupancies depending on the ambulatory status of the clients. Referring then to Section 903.2.8 it specifically prohibits a 13D system in Group R-2.1 & R-4 occupancies. Halfway houses must utilize a full 13 system. * Basement Storage in Multi-Residential: According to the Building Code the common storage area located in the basement of a Group R-2 multi-residential building such as apartments or condos would be a Group S-1 occupancy which must be separated from the R-2 by one-hour fire barriers. While the R-2 may be protected by a 13R system, the S-1 must be protected by a full 13 system.
