Personal experience here in SE Florida in Marinas...located on the water say Galvanized Sch 10...roll grooved is the best. It is second only to Sch. 40 Galvanized. Mic doesn't bother it and it holds up very well in a tropical salt air environment. We have used it in the Caribbean with great success.
The only painted pipe that I have seen hold up against outside corrosion was in a N Alabama paper mill. It was pickled, primed and painted with 2: coats of enamel. It has lasted 40 years inside the main paper machine building...but I remember that all of the outside cooling towers and transformers were done with galvanized. Here in Florida paint will come off and will allow rust to form underneath the paint. Use the galvanized. John W. Had a job where we used sch. 10 roll grooved 4'' as opposed to screwed. The sch. ten had a CRR of 7; corrosion resistance ration, expected to last 7 times longer. Threads are the week point with either pipe. Galvanizing is compromised by threading also but Sch. 10 would be roll grooved, correct? > Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2012 12:14:49 -0400 > To: [email protected] > From: [email protected] > Subject: Re: black sch 40 painted vs galv schedule 10 > > Galvanizing is a chemical bonding whereas painting is a coating.
