I don't have experience with the specific situation you're describing, but if all you need is Delphi access I highly recommend the Zeos Database Objects at http://www.zeoslib.net. The latest beta is SQLite capable, at least for SQLite 2.8.x Connecting through ODBC via ADO just seems like way too many layers to be comfortable.
