I will do some reading. Yes, prior to incorporating the use of the fmt:formatDate tag all was Ok, English was english and Japanese was, well, Japanese. I will read, but it seems poor behavior that the fmt:formatDate tag might hve a side effect like this, leaving the char set different after the call.
