John - Wow, my results are completely different than yours. Playing regular 16/44k files on my Touch yields CPU usage of 60%. I haven't tried 24/96 yet.
I have Squeezebox Server 7.5.0 running on a Dell Mini 9 with Ubuntu 10.04 beta. This is directly connected via Ethernet to my wireless router. The Touch is about 20 feet away and streaming via wireless. Wireless signal strength on the touch registers at 100%.
