Your points are valid, but for most (not some) people TinySC with an
attached 2.5" USB drive will work without a problem.  I can scan 8,000
FLAC files in under 30 minutes on the 1st scan (to build the database)
and 5 minutes when re-attaching the USB.  

I can access the USB remotely on my Laptop and can add new FLAC's or
edit tags without ejecting the USB from the Touch.

The only issue with a USB drive is that most 2.5" drives will need a
separate $8 ac/dc adaptor.

You only need SBS if you need any of the items (i.e. > 100 song
playlists ) listed on

If these limitations don't effect you, then there is no need to run
your PC 24/7 or to buy a separate Plug Computer or PC Appliance.

My advice: If you're going to buy a Touch (I'm very happy with mine),
try it first with a 2.5" USB with an ac/dc adaptor.
