It seems to me that Touch playback from USB is in the realms of Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. About all you can do is try it & see what happens. Maybe it will work as you want & maybe it won't. Unfortunately nobody, apparently not even Logitech, can provide details of a configuration that is guaranteed to work as you want it to.
I tried one with both a mains powered Seagate Freeagent 750GB & a bus powered Samsung S2. The results were identical. Painfully slow scans, random hanging, disjointed playback of playlists & random selections.
