Did you try 24bit 48kHz files, maybe the crystal and TDA combo only
does 48kHz which is very likely, but the Touch would not know that and
gladly put out 24/96 to your DAC ?

And DAC chip is Philips TDA-1541A DAC

maybe you have uncovered some incompatibility here ? that only manifest
with some files or bit patterns , If i get what John is after is that
some old stuff only do 20bit SPDIF and don't interprete the AUX bits
corectly .

The DAC is designed circa 85-89 the crystal chip is never but not by
much ?
