See griffins response in post 17 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=602152&postcount=17 It is not that simple, but it explains your 20bit status, and it should not report 24/96 all the time but also 24/44.1 and 24/48 and 24/88.2 . There seems to be no real way to actually indicate bit depth with 100% accuracy and it actually does not say anything about the signal content . I was unaware of that fact exposed in Griffin's post (thanks something new learned). Then it gets clear to me why many dac and processor simply indicate sample rate and not bits I'm convinced that it actually is 24bit's we get for the reason that many people have indicated that they measured that it is soo and some experiments I've trying to get squeezeplay to output 24bit to my soundcard in ubuntu :-/ I see that the server indeed sends 24LE or what it was . Also the touch has a 24bit alsa process running all the time. But it would be nice to have the bug fixed it would not fix all cases but increase the likelihood of correct indication. And to bake our noodles further nobody will hear the difference between 20 and 24 bits the signal may be 24 bit but most DAC's and ADC's is practically 20bit due to the S/N ratio even if they are equipped with so called 24bit chips :) so is it really 24bit I'm hearing now....... ;) -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch.
