Small clarification. I still think Dave is the current gold standard -- when he's interested and motivated, but too often the monologue is on autopilot, the desk pieces are stale, and when he gets a guest whom he has no idea what to do with (usually a starlet, the star of a sitcom, or some teen idol), he's pretty dismal. When he gets on a great desk rant or is able to just have a conversation with the guest, though, he's still untouchable. The Robin Williams show a couple of weeks ago (and I can't believe I'm mentioning Williams twice in two posts ...) was wonderful, because it wasn't Dave setting Williams up to do schitck, it was two veterans reminiscing about the old days. --Dave Sikula -- TV or Not TV ....
