The Goldthwait moment was the first one in my memory.

I also agree the Jack Riley, Fred Willard and Gilbert Gottfried bits were
amongst my personal favorites (Fred Willard as Christopher Columbus in
heaven flipping off Vaso De Gama caused Leno to drop to ground laughing).

The night Jay talked about his mother dying (I worked that night and none
of us knew it had happened or that he was going to talk about it).

The live Cheers episode when the cast was too drunk to stand or speak.

The late Phil Hartman's parody of the infamous Carson-era tomahawk throw.

Angie Harmon getting proposed to... though I believe they are either
divorcing or divorced now.

I'd also put the collective episodes Leno did during the WGA strike up for
honorable mention, as Leno seemed so much more relaxed and natural, and he
really seemed to be enjoying himself more than he ever did (he even said
publicly, there was something freeing about not having to pretend to like a
bad movie being promoted and not having to kiss ass in general).

Not sure it counts, but Kimmel on "The Jay Leno Show" begging Leno not to
go back to the Tonight Show.
