Issue remains with latest 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 3 LiveCD 64-bit
version.

With default free driver, system would hang.  With proprietary NVidia 
driver, (installed via "Hardware Drivers" and doing sudo /etc/init.d/gdm 
restart) the issue is exactly the same.  Hibernate could not be tested 
without a swap partition.
