Issue remains with latest 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 3 LiveCD 64-bit version. With default free driver, system would hang. With proprietary NVidia driver, (installed via "Hardware Drivers" and doing sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart) the issue is exactly the same. Hibernate could not be tested without a swap partition.
