@AttilaN : Actually there is a problem recently in my system too where it freezes at seemingly random times, but it's not related to the kernel. [it has occurred in several kernels]
Only recently i noticed the following was the last message in ~/.xsession-errors when the system froze: NOTE: child process received `Goodbye', closing down I'm not sure if its related, Might be. So if it freezes for you could you check you xsession-errors. ?
