I am going to mark this bug as invalid. Here’s what happened. I logged into Gnome and it told me there was a U dev error. And the boxes didn’t pop up I rebooted, went back Into gnome, and suddenly I had boxes. So I logged out and logged back in, this time to i3, And my pop-up boxes and ribbon icon popped up!
