Friends Like me if you encountered the crashing of Fontforge when a ttf font is opened while operating in Ubuntu 11.10, here is the bug report which includes the proposed update (released 5 days back) which solves the bug for testing: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontforge/+bug/805752.
