I'm encountering this issue on a travelmate tm8204wlmi with an ati x1600 card.
It may well be related to bug 363238 somehow, since switching to XAA as recommended in the comments there does fix the problem for me. However, EXA gives me vastly superior performance compared to XAA in every single application I've tried except for rdesktop.
