[karmic UNR daily 20090702.1-karmic-netbook-remix-i386.iso]

Boots up but says "Failed to start the X server". Details offered:

"Warning: Could not generate /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe for vesa
driver"

Hardware: Dell Mini 10v netbook. lspci shows a "Intel Mobile
945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics COntroller (rev
03)"

It gives me a console but the line I'm typing on is below the bottom of
the screen (I can't see myself type, but can see scrolled-up output).

When I try "startx", it says:

(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
(EE) intel(0): Output LVDS1 enabled but has no modes
(EE) intel(0): No modes.

followed by a backtrace 8 levels deep.

The file /etc/X11/xorg.conf is an empty file. When I remove that file and try
"startx" again, I get the same error,
but in addition it says "(EE) Failed to load module "i810" (module does not
exist, 0)" before the LVDS error.

xserver-xorg is version 1:7.4+3ubuntu4

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
