** Description changed:

I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and from time to time my cursor
jumps erratically, clicking and opening stuff. I tried disabling desktop
effects, thinking that it might be related to compiz. I have to mention
that this happens on a desktop computer, not on a laptop. I am using an
optical mouse that works fine on Windows XP. I only have this issue on
  Ubuntu 10.10.

- I've noticed that pressing ESC or Ctrl will stop the cursor from jumping
- for awhile but it starts again after a few seconds.
