Max, you haven't indicated what version of Ubuntu you're reporting this against. Also, you should indicate whether you're running gdm or lightdm.
I've confirmed that in oneiric with lightdm it doesn't start up failsafex if there is an error in xorg.conf - but I think that's more due to lack of some sort of failsafe support in lightdm, than an issue in X, which in fact is already in the plans. However, if you are using gdm, and/or are on a release before oneiric, then there is probably a different problem at play. Anyway, let me know which window manager you're using. (Really, you should be filing bugs using 'ubuntu-bug xorg', because it includes a number of files that help me see how your system is set up.) ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => xdiagnose (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xdiagnose (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - X11 does not tolerate errors in /etc/X11/xorg.conf + display manager does not start a gui session if errors are present in /etc/X11/xorg.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801600 Title: display manager does not start a gui session if errors are present in /etc/X11/xorg.conf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/801600/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
