Public bug reported: nvidia-current doesn't check if /usr/share/applications exists. It runs update-alternatives to set ubuntu-nvidia-settings.desktop, but this assumes /usr/share/applications already exists. This happens when to packages that use this path are installed. This happens when you have empty Ubntu server system or a empty debootstrap chroot.
