This 'freeze' has not been seen recently. Currently running: "Linux version 3.0.0-14-generic (buildd@seaborgium) (gcc version 4.6.1 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) ) #22~pre201111070400-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 7 09:42:48 UTC 2011" so ether the bug has been fixed in the later kernel or its was a sporadic hardware bug.
