The computer still gets rather hot (and really hot when forcing Unity on), but 
it's not a 110°C anymore.
Now the hottest it gets (using Unity 2D) is around 90 to 100°C.

My personal opinion is that it would be best to get to the source of
this heat production, as I've had this problem on another computer as
well running Ubuntu 11.10. The final decision is up to you of course.
Only thing I can say is that I'm not going to risk this again, so I've
switched to another distro for the time being, until this issue gets a
permanent fix.
