I've not been testing Precise builds for the last few weeks now. I decided to give today's daily build a try to see how things are going.
Performance is improved dramatically since the last time I tried. While not perfect, it's definitely usable at this point. Even smooth scrolling in Firefox isn't extremely choppy. I noticed that when I first logged in, everything was entirely flawless. After about 2 minutes, it started lagging like before. The lag is not as much, but it is still there. I'm unsure what causes this lag. I'm not doing anything special and I can't seem to reliably reproduce it; it just happens after under 5 minutes of use no matter what I happen to be doing. Relogging in doesn't reduce lag. Hardware configuration is entirely the same. Just thought I'd chime in with the update, since something's definitely better :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/898963 Title: Desktop performance (2d) much worse than expected.
