** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is a private bug which is created in parallel to Bug 216454 and Bug 220563: Cloning and "Extending" a screen keeps the system in a state with which you cannot work The following issue has been tested by canonical support. Here are the instructions to reproduce: 1) On Laptop using intel integrated video, plug in a monitor to the VGA 2) Boot the computer, screens will be in "Clone" mode 3) Go to System > Preferences > Screen resolution 4) Clone button is NOT checked. Monitors cannot be put into extended mode using screen-resolution-utility Tested using the following hardware -Dell Inspiron 1420 -Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a02] (rev 0c) Using "intel" driver monitors cannot be put into extended mode unless xorg.conf is configured manually by adding the following to Section "Screen" == Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" SubSection "Display" Virtual 2048 2048 EndSubSection EndSection == Of course "2048 2048" will create a virtual environment for the two monitors either X or Y resolution on both monitors add up to 2048 or less. In this example, the virtual space for the two monitors to be laid out will allow to monitors to be side by side at a max resolution of 1024x1024 per monitor. This should be done automatically. Please try to correct this bug so that this can be done graphically using screen-resolution-utility. QA Team response deadline: Jul 11, 4:00 UTC + PACKAGE: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
