@Nicolas #7 / #8 Thank you, the downgrade worked fine - while I waited for my new graphics card to arrive... The NZ$80 card (NVIDIA GT 520) arrived the next day. I removed the oneiric source and pin again, reran update/dist-upgrade and then installed nvidia-current. All working now. @Timo #9 What's "silly and dangerous" is not mentioning a showstopper in the release notes.
