With Karmic Alpha 4: Used the System -> Preferences -> Display app rather than xrandr directly.
Turning off the laptop display and enabling the second screen with 1680x1050 resolution resulted in two black screens except for 10-20 lines of corrupt graphics on the top of the left screen (showing parts of the top GNOME panel bar). The second screen was enabled however, and I was able to move the mouse cursor from the left to the right screen as expected. After the timeout, the old settings were restored and the left screen worked as it did after booting. I set Visual Effects to none under Preferences -> Appearance and tried enabling second screen in the Display app again. This successfully enabled both screens with 1680x1050 resolution. By enabling visual effects again I could reproduce the two black screens (but without any corrupt graphics this time). After disabling visual effects it was again possible to successfully enable the second screen. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30716424/Xorg.0.log -- [i945GM][xorg-edgers][2.6.31-020631rc6-generic] Unable to set virtual size greater than 2048x2048 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415822 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
