I confirm that Nick Andrick's solution works for me. I have hybrid ati/intel graphics . downgrading the intel driver through his PPA as described in http://askubuntu.com/questions/202857/cant-install-ati-proprietary-drivers-in-12-10/207270#207270 Solves my problem. So I suggest you bug fixing ninjas out there focus on that intel driver.
