The abovementioned patch has now been merged to mainline and should be in kernel 3.8-rc2 if you want to test it. A PPA of this kernel should soon be available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds
