I use to experience similar problems - CPU usage goes to max (kernel code) and sometimes it ends after a while, sometimes I have to reboot the computer. It usually happens when the following programs are running: - Google Chrome (probable because of flash player) - Canon Digital Photo Professional in wine - xfreerdp If they run at the same time, the risk of problems is quite high.
