If the X didn't crash with the command in step 2, you will be able to see error 
message in the termnial:
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 151 (XVideo)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 19 ()
  Serial number of failed request: 51
  Current serial number in output stream: 52

And these issues only happen on discrete AMD GPU with fglrx, can't be 
reproduced on the Intel GPU.
