No I did not have any other device attached to the laptop nor am I
having any problems with grub before the splash screen. But I did figure
it out how this is happening in my case. Basically, whenever I boot up
the laptop, and login to my account, and then shut down or restart, in
this case it works fine. But whenever I boot up and shut down or restart
without logging into my account, in this case, the next time I boot up
it freezes on the splash screen. So then I have to boot up and shut down
from the USB drive, and this seems to somehow fix the problem, and then
it boots up OK from the internal HDD.
