I think I know what it /could/ be! I have been using a clean (no-nvidia, no-xorg.conf) system for a while now and today I removed plymouth:
sudo apt-get purge ^.*plymouth.*\$ Anyway, upon installing NVIDIA 195.36.08 through Jockey, this is the /third/ restart and Compiz through OpenGL is working without a hitch! Also, by me not using Plymouth, I am no longer affected by the current Plymouth bug which causes X to restart when hitting the Enter key. I'll keep you posted; if the driver continues to work, the bug could be a conflict link between nvidia and plymouth... -- OpenGL renders extremely slowly with NVIDIA drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525155 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
